Synopsis
Apapaatai presents a shamanic vision of the spiritual world of the Wauja, a native people of Brazilian Amazonia. As abductors of human souls, the apapaatai are the main cause of illnesses. However, when celebrated in masquerade rituals with flutes and clarinets the apapaatai can cure and protect the Wauja, for whom the apapaatai are considered a kind of vaccine that can strengthen their bodies.
