The Residency: 29th August to 3rd September in the Peak District.
The Conference: 5th and 6th September 2019 at the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology, University of Manchester.
The organizers invite theoretical, experimental, sensorial, and methodological contributions that cover themes including, but not limited to:
- Individual expressions of perception, emotion, and identity
- Cultural representations, memories, imaginings, and visions
- Sociospatial encounters and understandings between different people and places
- The politics and ethics of representation in visual research
- The dynamic power relations at play in the construction and dissemination of images
Film, photography, performance, cartoons, sound, drawings, and any other sensory materials produced through critical, creative or reflexive processes in practice-as-research or ethnography are welcome.
Criteria
The residency conference is open to social researchers with strong audio-visual projects.
Residency: 1) participants will present audio-visual projects that are work-in-progress; 2) participants will have concrete plans for developing these projects during the residency; 3) participants will be ready to collaborate with other attendees in an innovative and creative, yet professional and technically proficient manner, to create a collective project to be exhibited during the conference.
Conference: 1) participants will present finished work relevant to the conference topic; 2) the presentation will be centred around a strong audio-visual component.

O Centro Universitário Maria Antonia da USP recebe, desta segunda-feira, dia 15, até 30 de junho, a exposição Confidência das Imagens na Antropologia: Modos de Ver, Pensar e Interrogar. Ela ficará aberta gratuitamente de terça a domingo e feriados, das 10 às 18 horas.
Sylvia Caiuby Novaes, da Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas (FFLCH-USP), é finalista e vencedora na categoria de fotografia com o trabalho "Imagens da Etiópia".
Dois filmes produzidos pelo LISA foram selecionados no próximo Festival Forumdoc.bh, que ocorrerá de 23 de novembro a 3 de dezembro, em Belo Horizonte.
Curta sobre a diáspora negra é uma coprodução entre professores da USP e de Sussex e artista congolês.
"Tabuluja (Acordem)", filme produzido no Laboratório de Imagem e Som em Antropologia (LISA-USP), é selecionado entre os finalistas do 2017 Research in Film Awards do AHRC (the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s), agência britânica para a área de Artes e Humanidades.
