Part of the collection held by the Laboratory of Image and Sound in Anthropology (LISA) at the University of São Paulo is now featured on a digital platform designed to democratize access to audiovisual works about the Amazon region.

Audiovisual productions from LISA, resulting from decades of fieldwork in the Amazon region, now have a new channel dedicated to promoting and disseminating the region's cultural knowledge and products. The partnership between the Laboratory and the streaming platform SOMMOS AMAZÔNIA—formalized in December 2025 and announced in May 2026 - consolidates the circulation of scientific knowledge accumulated at the public university.

Affiliated with the Department of Anthropology at USP’s School of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (FFLCH), LISA is an international reference point for work linked to the field of Expressive Forms and Knowledge Regimes. It encompasses media such as photography, cinema, theater, and music, while valuing, embracing, and fostering the production of knowledge regarding cross-cutting anthropological themes since 1991. The Laboratory houses an extensive collection of photographs, audio recordings, and documentary films, serving as a core center for research and training for students across various areas of anthropology.

This collaboration with the platform expands the reach of a body of work focused on Amazonian themes in the broadest sense—ranging from Indigenous peoples and traditional communities to studies on local knowledge and the region's urban and rural cultural expressions.
SOMMOS AMAZÔNIA is the first global platform dedicated to the digital distribution of Amazonian cultural products and the dissemination of information and knowledge about the region. It brings together content spanning audiovisual media, music, literature, visual arts, food, and news, offering a cross-cutting, multimedia browsing experience.

The availability of these productions on a publicly accessible platform reinforces USP’s mission regarding university outreach and the social return of academic research. This initiative allows materials of significant anthropological value to extend beyond university walls, fostering dialogue with society and the territories being studied.
