Woya Hayi Mawe - Para onde vais? (2018)

Date/Time: November 7, 2025 | 10:30 AM
Location: Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB) – Santo Amaro (BA)

Synopsis: Following Lenna Bahule, a Mozambican artist, we see how she faces the challenges of being a musician, a woman, and Black in both Brazil and Mozambique. The São Paulo art world demands her African identity, her roots. Meanwhile, in Mozambique, Lenna is now known for her success in Brazil. Back in her homeland, she rediscovers it with new eyes. Lenna encounters an inspiring generation of musicians in Maputo, involving them in the production of a large-scale show. Whether on stage, at her grandmother's farm, or in a social project on the outskirts of Maputo, we see Lenna and the Mozambican artivists investigating the traditional and popular music of their country and discovering new paths. Navigating between activism and the stage, between the imagined Africa that Brazil expects to find in her, and the Brazilian cosmopolitanism that São Paulo imposes on her, Lenna discovers that her musical roots were even more powerful than she imagined.

Directed by: Rose Satiko G. Hikiji and Jasper Chalcraft

São Palco – Cidade Afropolitana (2023)

Date/Time: November 10, 2025 | 3:30 PM
Location: Espaço Cultural 2 de julho, Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Bahia (IFBA) – Salvador (BA)

Date/Time: November 13, 2025 | 10:48 AM
Location: Art Cinema Room, Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) – Salvador (BA)

Synopsis: What do African artists who have arrived in Brazil in recent years carry with them on their journey? How do African diasporas – the new creative diaspora and the one that turned the Atlantic into a cemetery – interact? What stages are occupied, built, filled with the performances of artists who cross the ocean? Ancestral realities updated in performances that construct an Afropolitan present in a metropolis where it is necessary to be daring, to color the gray. São Palco – Cidade Afropolitana presents the city of São Paulo as a meta-stage occupied by artists from Togo, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Angola, among other African nations, in dialogue with the Brazilian population and its openness, contradictions, and tensions.

Directed by: Jasper Chalcraft and Rose Satiko Gitirana Hikiji
