In the memory of black elders in the city of Campinas reside collective practices of music and dance, the subject of my postdoctoral research "Memórias Vivas de uma Comunidade Negra". Between the 1940s and 1960s, large black dances, with orchestras, formal attire, and exquisite decoration were organized in the most refined "white" clubs, between three and four times a year. These events were essential in the formation of a sustained and well-articulated "black community" until today.
With the intention of understanding the importance of this universe of sounds, lights, movements and glamor in the lives of these people, the idea of a recreation arose. Thus, the "Baile para Matar as Saudades", was held in April 2014, inserting my interlocutors in a music and dance experience, and bringing up their most diverse memories.
The images gathered in this essay portray deeply embodied memories, mobilized through the re-experience of an experience.
