The guided tour of the laboratory facilities took place on May 29, 2025
The Laboratory of Image and Sound in Anthropology (LISA) was pleased to welcome, on May 29, 2025, approximately 20 students in the final years of high school and college preparatory courses for a tour of its facilities. The activity was part of the guided tour to introduce the Social Sciences course at the School of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (FFLCH-USP).
The students were welcomed by the head of the Anthropology Department, Marina Vanzolini, and by undergraduate Social Sciences students and laboratory scholarship holders, Victória Gebara and Maykon Almeida, who presented an overview of the course with a special focus on the field of Anthropology, work and research prospects. It was an excellent opportunity for the students to ask questions about training in the area.
Victoria is a prominent student of Social Sciences at USP. She is currently an intern at the Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of São Paulo and a Student Representative for the Department of Anthropology (DA). Her passion for sharing knowledge also led her to work as a teacher for four years at the “Cursinho Popular Arcadas” at the USP Law School. For Victória, presenting the Social Sciences course to high school students at the college was an enriching experience. She says that, although she had already talked about her education, the opportunity to do it in this place, introducing students to new perspectives, was unique and remarkable.
“I think this type of activity is super important! You put people in touch and show them that it is possible. Even though it is far away, it is possible… I talked to girls who came from Cubatão to here. If I had had this opportunity when I was younger, a lot would have been different, I would have decided faster, I would have known more. It is essential to show that this place exists”, says Victoria.
Students had the chance to explore LISA's facilities, led by Ricardo Dionisio, audiovisual specialist and head of multi-user services (USP MULTI), and Vanessa Munhoz, technician responsible for communication and partnerships, who showed them the laboratory's complexes and equipment. Students were able to see up close the editing suites, spaces dedicated to editing, assembling and producing LISA's films. They also had access to the technical reserves, where audio and video recording materials (cameras and microphones) are stored, as well as part of the film and iconographic collection, totaling more than 28,600 items dating back to the early 20th century, much of which is available for consultation on the website.
The guided tours are part of the USP and Professions Program, an initiative of the Office of the Vice-Rector for Culture and University Extension aimed at students in the process of choosing and entering higher education.
